(An Honest Christmas Blog for Every Woman Who Secretly Loves a Fairytale)

Let’s talk about Christmas.

Not the cookies.

Not the shopping.

Not the please, someone save me from these school concerts season.

I’m talking about Hallmark Movie Season — that magical time of year when every woman I know suddenly believes that love is real, small towns are whimsical, and absolutely ZERO men need therapy.

Look… we have to be honest with ourselves:

As women, we secretly crave the fairytale.

The soft snow.

The perfect kiss.

The man in flannel who owns a bakery AND magically has emotional availability.

And then we look over at the real men in our lives like:

😐 “Sir… can you even remember my coffee order?”

Hallmark: The Hope Dealer We Never Asked For

Every year, millions of women sit on their couch with a blanket and a hot chocolate watching the same EXACT plot:

Busy career woman returns to hometown

Meets rugged yet sensitive lumberjack/baker/veterinarian

Chemistry ignites

Corporate fiancé named Brad becomes irrelevant

Snow gently falls

Love is perfect

Kissing happens

THE END

And every year, we eat it up like sugar cookies at 2 a.m.

Because even though we know life doesn’t look like a Hallmark movie…

it’s the one place we get to believe it could.

But let’s tell the truth… men are NOT keeping up.

Hallmark has set a bar that most men have never even seen, much less reached:

Hallmark Man vs. Real Man:

Hallmark Man:

“I made you cocoa because I felt your heart needed it.”

Real Man:

“Did you move my tools? They were right here five days ago.”

Hallmark Man:

“I drove 8 hours in the snow because I missed you.”

Real Man:

“I forgot to text back. I fell asleep scrolling.”

Hallmark Man:

“I carved your name into this Christmas tree because loving you changed my life.”

Real Man:

“What time are we supposed to leave? I wasn’t listening.”

And somehow… we still root for them BOTH.

Are Hallmark movies setting us up for heartbreak?

Short answer: Absolutely.

Long answer: Also absolutely.

Because Hallmark says:

✨ “He will fight for you.”

✨ “He will show up.”

✨ “He will know exactly what to say.”

✨ “He will choose you without hesitation.”

Real life says:

“…did you get my text???”

Hallmark men say things like,

“I knew the moment I saw you — you were it.”

Real men say:

“Sorry, I’ve just been really busy.”

Busy with WHAT, Daniel??

The elves??

The reindeer??

But here’s the truth behind the comedy…

Women crave fairytales because we crave effort.

Consistency.

Thoughtfulness.

Being chosen.

Feeling seen.

Feeling prioritized.

It’s not the hot cocoa or the snow or the small-town bakery romance.

It’s the man who actually shows up.

Hallmark gives us fantasy, yes — but it also reminds us that we deserve more than the bare minimum.

Even if real men occasionally fall flat… okay, frequently fall flat…

okay, sometimes hit the floor harder than a dropped ornament…

we’re allowed to want magic.

So are Hallmark movies setting us up for heartbreak?

Maybe.

But maybe they’re also reminding us that:

✨ Love should feel good

✨ Romance shouldn’t be complicated

✨ Being cherished isn’t unreasonable

✨ And effort is not a myth

Just… maybe stop expecting your husband to whisper poetic monologues while stringing lights on the porch.

He’s probably swearing under his breath, on the ladder, tangled in extension cords.

And honestly?

That’s its own kind of love story.
